CHECK OUT THE ARTICLE: ŠOLTA WORTH TO VISIT

A large Jadrolinija car ferry sailing across the blue Adriatic Sea near Split, Croatia, under a sunny sky

Hi there! It’s great that you’re interested in Šolta – it’s a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a unique, peaceful spot to truly relax. Šolta is an island through and through, so unless you have a helicopter, you can only get here by sea. But don't worry – the journey by speedboat, catamaran, or ferry is a pure pleasure that usually takes between 30 and 50 minutes.

For me, the journey to Šolta begins the moment I step onto the ferry. I highly encourage you: skip sitting in your car or inside the cabin. Head straight for the upper sun deck. As the ferry sets off, you leave the urban bustle of Split behind, and a breathtaking view opens up of the Riva, Diocletian's Palace, the mountains, and the islands scattered across the Adriatic: Brač, Hvar, Šolta, Drvenik Mali and Veliki, and Čiovo.

At that moment, you’ll realize choosing this trip was a fantastic idea.

HOW TO GET TO ŠOLTA ISLAND: FERRIES, CATAMARANS & PRIVATE TRANSFERS (2026 GUIDE)

In my opinion, the Jadrolinija ferry crossing has the most advantages. It’s not just transport – it’s a 45-minute scenic tour of the most beautiful coast in Dalmatia.

Why do I recommend the ferry?

  • The prices are fair: This is the cheapest option. In winter, a ticket costs €4.40, and in the summer season, it’s about €5.40 per person. Considering it’s essentially a 45-minute sightseeing cruise – it’s practically a steal!

  • A view worth admiring: If you take the morning ferry (especially when the sun rises after 6:00 AM), you’ll witness a spectacle you won't forget. The sun emerging from behind the mountains over Split, seen from the water’s surface, is stunning. When returning from the island on an evening ferry, definitely pick the one during sunset – the colors of the sky over the Adriatic are simply surreal.

  • NO SEASICKNESS: If you’re worried about seasickness – forget it. The Biokovo ferry is a massive, stable vessel. It’s very hard to "rock," making it a perfect solution for those who aren't comfortable on smaller boats but still want to feel that wonderful sea breeze. The ferry carries both cars and foot passengers.

Logistical Tips:

Tickets online: You don't need to install any apps. You can simply buy tickets on the carrier's website. This saves you from standing in the ticket office queue, which you can find in the Split port [link to Google maps].

Punctuality: There is no "grace period" for the ferry. Loading is very efficient, and the ferry departs exactly on time, so be at the port early.

Traveling by car: If you’re traveling by car in July or August, arrive at the ferry parking lot with plenty of time to spare. The queue can be long!

Onboard Café: In my opinion, the prices there are way too high. It’s the most expensive place you’ll encounter on your way to the island, so it's better to bring your own drinks from the mainland.

KRILO CATAMARAN SCHEDULE & TICKETS – CHECK HERE

High-speed catamaran ferry cruising between Split and Šolta island for quick passenger transport.

If you aren't bringing a car and every minute counts, choose the catamaran. It gets you to Rogač (or seasonally to Stomorska) in about 30 minutes. Just remember that you’ll be sitting inside behind glass – you don't get the same atmosphere as on the open deck of the ferry.

  • Price: A ticket usually costs around €5.40.

  • Note: Catamarans run much less frequently than ferries, so always check the current schedule directly with the carrier, Krilo.

2. CATAMARAN – FOR THOSE IN A HURRY

A private luxury speedboat transfer with a skipper moving away from the historic coastline of Split towards Šolta.

This is the solution for groups, fans of fast boating, or late arrivals. A water taxi can pick you up directly from the pier near the airport (Divulje) and take you straight to the waterfront in Maslinica or Nečujam.

  • Time & Thrills: The trip from the airport area takes about 30–40 minutes and is incredibly exciting with unique views.

  • Cost: The average cost for this service is around €200 for the whole boat. This is your only option if your plane lands after 7:00 PM and you can no longer catch a public ferry.

3. WATER TAXI (SPEEDBOAT) – THE PREMIUM OR EMERGENCY OPTION

Parking in Split: Port parking can break the bank and is usually full. Sometimes it’s simply better to take your car to the island and use it to fully explore all the hidden coves and beaches.

Logistics on-site: If you’re coming to the island without a car, it’s best to plan your local transport in advance. Šolta has its own unique rules for getting around that are worth knowing before you arrive.
